How to brief an agent

Give the agent a clear goal, useful context, and a result you can check.

Describe the finished result

Say what you want to receive, who it is for, and how you plan to use it. “Make a one-page call brief” gives the agent a clearer target than “help with sales”.

Provide the relevant material

Name the notes or files the agent should use. Include the facts and constraints that matter. Explain whether it should work only with your material or use other available sources.

Define the format and boundaries

Ask for sections, a table, or an action list. Explain what to leave out and when to ask you a question. Be clear about whether you want a draft or an action.

Prepare a call brief from these notes. Use three sections: account context, open questions, and next steps. Do not guess missing facts. Draft only; do not send messages.

Give specific feedback

Point to the part that needs changing. Ask for shorter sections, missing source links, or a different format. Keep useful instructions for the next time you repeat the task.
