Tools and integrations
Learn how tools let an agent work with files, apps, and other services.
Tools let the agent take steps
A tool might search a source, read a file, run a calculation, or make a change. The agent can use only the tools its environment makes available. Do not assume every agent has the same abilities.
An integration connects another service
An integration may connect an agent to an app you already use. Check which features it supports. A provider naming an app does not tell you exactly what information the agent can read or change.
Read access and write access are different
Reading a calendar and creating an event are separate actions. Before connecting a service, look at the requested access and decide what the task actually needs.
Start with the smallest useful setup
A pasted sample or an uploaded example may be enough for the first task. Add connections when they solve a clear need. Follow the provider’s current setup instructions rather than a general list of app names.
