OVERVIEW
About Rootly
Rootly is an incident management platform for engineering teams. It runs incidents inside Slack or Microsoft Teams, with channels, roles, workflows and a timeline of key events. Its AI writes incident titles and summaries, helps late joiners catch up and drafts the retrospective. Meeting Scribe joins incident calls as a bot, transcribes them with speaker labels and feeds the transcript into summaries and retrospectives.
These AI features come with the Incident Response product at USD 20 per user per month; there is no free plan, but trials typically last two weeks. A separately priced AI SRE investigates alerts, ranks likely causes and suggests fixes, including draft pull requests, and Rootly says every change needs human sign-off. Rootly AI in Slack can also carry out actions you ask for, such as paging a team, and asks you to confirm destructive ones first. Treat retrospective drafts as a starting point for the review meeting. Qualifying startups and very small companies can ask for large discounts.
What the workflow does
- Incident response in Slack and Teams: Creates incident channels, assigns roles, runs workflows and tracks status from the chat tool.
- Incident timeline: Captures key events, decisions and status changes, with events added from Slack, the web app, email or the API.
- Meeting Scribe: Joins Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex and GoToMeeting bridges, transcribes with speaker labels and redacts sensitive personal data before storage.
- AI summaries and retrospective drafts: Generates titles, summaries and catch-ups, and drafts retrospectives from the incident record.
- AI SRE: A separately priced add-on that investigates alerts, ranks probable root causes with evidence and suggests fixes for engineers to approve.
FROM INPUT TO RESULT
How the workflow works
You provide
- A Slack or Microsoft Teams workspace.
- Alert sources and engineering tools such as GitHub or Jira.
- A meeting platform for Scribe: Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex or GoToMeeting.
- A retrospective template.
You get
- A timeline and summary that late joiners can read instead of interrupting the call.
- A first retrospective draft built from the incident record and call transcript.
- Fewer manual notes during incident bridge calls.
- 1
Start the trial and run a test incident to check channels, roles and the timeline.
- 2
Turn on Meeting Scribe and AI summaries for a few real incidents and compare them with what responders remember.
- 3
Review the AI retrospective drafts in the post-incident meeting, then adjust templates and AI data settings.

IS IT A GOOD FIT?
Who it’s for
A good fit for
- Engineering teams that run incidents in Slack or Microsoft Teams.
- Teams that hold incident bridge calls and want a searchable transcript.
- Startups that qualify for Rootly's discounts.
Not the best fit for
- Teams that need a free plan to get started.
- Organisations that cannot let a bot record incident calls.
Strengths
- Incident management runs smoothly inside Slack.
- Reviewers praise the support team and the low effort to adopt it.
Limitations
- Product Hunt reviews are few and about four years old.
- The G2 figure comes from a search snapshot and covers the wider platform.
- Reviews predate most of the current AI features.
