OVERVIEW
About EssayGrader
EssayGrader is an AI grading assistant for teachers who mark large batches of student writing. You upload a class set of essays, choose your own rubric or one from its library, and it drafts a score for each criterion with written comments. It works with Google Classroom, Canvas and Schoology, and it can split one PDF of handwritten essays into separate submissions. Paid plans add AI-writing, plagiarism and citation checks. The free plan grades up to 100 essays a month of up to 1,000 words each.
EssayGrader drafts the grades; the teacher stays responsible for them. Review and adjust every score and comment before sharing it, and look hardest at borderline grades and unusual essays. The vendor says it complies with FERPA, COPPA and CCPA, does not need student names and does not use submissions to train AI models; these are vendor claims, so check them against your school's data rules. Its published accuracy figures come from the company's own studies. Treat an AI-writing flag as a reason to look closer, not as proof that a student cheated.
What the workflow does
- Rubric-based grading: Drafts a score for each rubric criterion using your own rubric or one from a library of over 800 standards-aligned rubrics.
- Batch upload: Grades a whole class at once, including one PDF of handwritten essays that it splits into separate submissions.
- Draft feedback: Writes comments meant to guide revision without giving students the answers.
- AI-writing and plagiarism checks: On paid plans, highlights sentences likely written by AI and checks for copying from the web or between students.
- Classroom and storage connections: Works with Google Classroom, Canvas and Schoology, and with Google Drive, Dropbox and Box.
- Teacher review before sharing: Scores and comments are drafts until the teacher reviews, adjusts and shares them.
