OVERVIEW
About Happy Scribe
Happy Scribe is a transcription and subtitling tool. You upload a video or audio file, or paste a link, and it creates AI subtitles in more than 150 languages. It can then machine-translate them into 80+ languages. The subtitle editor shows characters per second (CPS) and characters per line (CPL) for each caption, and a timing panel lets you set those limits. You correct text and timing against the video, then export SRT, VTT or other formats.
Happy Scribe says its engine adjusts reading speed and line length automatically to common broadcast standards. It is not clear whether the editor flags cues that break your limits or quietly re-times them, so check a sample after export. Happy Scribe itself quotes up to 85% accuracy for AI subtitles, so every file still needs a full check against the audio. Human proofreading costs from USD 2 per minute if you would rather not correct the AI output yourself. The free plan includes only a 10-minute trial of AI transcription and subtitling.
What the workflow does

- Subtitle editor: Edit text and timing on the video preview, with CPS, CPL, line and gap settings and a Find tool for repeated errors.
- Glossaries and style guides: Keep names and terms consistent; one of each on Free to Pro, unlimited on Business.
- Export formats: SRT and TXT on all plans; VTT, STL, XML, FCPXML, EDL and more from Pro; burned-in MP4 without a watermark from Basic.
- Human services: Optional professional proofreading, subtitling and translation from USD 2 per minute.

IS IT A GOOD FIT?
Who it’s for
A good fit for
- Video teams and creators who publish subtitled or translated videos regularly.
- Teams that want to correct AI subtitles themselves, with the option to order human proofreading.
Not the best fit for
- Anyone who needs broadcast-ready subtitles without a human check.
- Occasional users who want to test a full video for free; the free AI trial is 10 minutes.
Strengths
- Reviewers praise speed, accuracy and subtitle work in several languages.
- Support is often described as helpful.
Limitations
- Several reviewers were surprised by a paywall after uploading a file.
- The 10-minute free trial is too short to test a full lecture or video.
- Some transcripts still need manual fixes, and a few users reported failed uploads of large files.
