OVERVIEW

About Buffer

Buffer is social media management software for creators, small businesses and agencies. You plan posts in a calendar and queue, and Buffer publishes them at the times you set to channels such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts and Google Business Profile. Its AI Assistant helps you brainstorm ideas, change a post's tone or length, and turn one post into versions for different channels. Buffer also has a comment inbox and analytics on how posts perform.

Buffer's AI is an assistant, not an agent. It only drafts text when you open it, and it does not choose, schedule or publish posts on its own. You decide what goes into the queue; once a post is scheduled, Buffer publishes it automatically at that time. Check every AI draft for accuracy, tone and claims before scheduling it. Buffer says the text you type into the assistant is shared with OpenAI, so keep confidential details out of it.

What the workflow does

  • AI Assistant: Brainstorms ideas, rewrites posts and changes tone, length or structure when you ask.
  • Repurposing for each channel: Turns one post into versions for LinkedIn, Threads, X, Instagram, Bluesky and other channels.
  • Scheduling and publishing: Queues posts in a calendar and publishes them automatically at the time you set on supported channels; some account types get a reminder to post instead.
  • Approval workflows: On the Team plan, sets who can draft posts and who must approve them before they are published.
  • Analytics and comments: Shows post performance and lets you reply to comments from one inbox, with AI reply suggestions.
  • Integrations and API: Connects to Canva, Google Drive, Dropbox, WordPress and Zapier, and offers an API and an MCP connection for AI assistants.

FROM INPUT TO RESULT

How the workflow works

You provide

  • An approved source message, article or announcement.
  • Connected social channels.
  • Brand voice notes and any claims that must not change.

You get

  • Channel-specific drafts from one source post.
  • A planned calendar of posts that publish at set times.
  • On the Team plan, posts approved before they go out.
  • Performance data to help decide what to post next.
  1. 1

Connect your channels and set posting times in the queue.

  2. 2

Paste an approved message into the AI Assistant, ask for versions for each channel, and edit the drafts.

  3. 3

Schedule the edited posts, using approvals on the Team plan, then check that each one published and review the analytics.

IS IT A GOOD FIT?

Who it’s for

A good fit for

  • Solo creators and small businesses posting to a few channels each week.
  • Small teams that need draft and approval steps before posts go out.
  • People who want help adapting one message for several channels but want the final say.

Not the best fit for

  • Teams expecting an agent that plans and publishes content on its own.
  • Teams that need in-depth analytics or advertising management.

Strengths

  • Easy to learn, including for beginners.
  • Saves time by scheduling posts for several platforms in one place.

Limitations

  • 40% of reviews are one-star, mostly about limited or inconsistent analytics and failed posts.
  • Buffer invites customers to leave reviews, which can affect the mix.
  • Reviews cover Buffer as a whole, not the AI Assistant specifically.
