OVERVIEW
About Cursor
Cursor brings agent work into the place where a developer reads and changes code. Instead of asking for a code snippet and copying it into an editor, you can give the agent a task with repository context. It can investigate the relevant files, make changes and use tools to check the result. This is useful for feature work, bug investigation and repetitive changes that would otherwise involve many small editor and terminal steps.
The best fit is a developer who wants to stay close to the code while delegating implementation work. Cursor can reduce manual editing, but it does not decide whether a feature is the right one or whether a change is safe to ship. Keep tasks reasonably scoped and describe the expected behavior. Review the diff, run meaningful checks and keep Git as the durable history. Agent checkpoints help undo experiments, but they are separate from version control.
What the workflow does
- Repository-aware agent: Works with project context to investigate questions and implement changes across files.
- Development tools: Uses editing and terminal tools so it can do work and check results within the development workflow.
- Checkpoints: Lets you preview and restore earlier file states from an agent conversation; this does not replace Git.
- Rules and extensions: Supports project instructions, skills, hooks and MCP connections for repeatable work.
- Cloud agents: Offers remote agent work on eligible plans, with setup and access controls appropriate to the environment.
FROM INPUT TO RESULT
How the workflow works
You provide
- A repository and the task's expected behavior.
- Project instructions, relevant files and useful error output.
- Build/test commands and only the access the task needs.
You get
- A reviewable code change instead of only a suggested snippet.
- A clearer explanation of unfamiliar code and possible bug causes.
- Less manual effort for repeated edits, test work and implementation details.
- 1
Open the project, give a bounded task and ask the agent to inspect the relevant code before broad changes.
- 2
Review its approach while it edits and runs appropriate tools; steer it if the task expands.
- 3
Inspect the final diff and test evidence, then commit through the normal team workflow.

IS IT A GOOD FIT?
Who it’s for
A good fit for
- Developers working daily in existing repositories.
- Small engineering teams that can review agent changes quickly.
- Technical founders who understand their stack and want help implementing a clear plan.
Not the best fit for
- Users expecting production software without engineering review.
- Teams that cannot provide a working development environment or clear acceptance criteria.
Strengths
- Users describe less repetitive coding and easier work with repository context.
- Integrated implementation and checking keep work close to the editor.
Limitations
- Broad or complex changes still need careful review.
- The cost depends on how heavily the team uses agent models.
- Review experiences can reflect an earlier version or plan.
